New Prosper Honor Wall Dedication Ceremony and Veterans Day 5K and Fun Run

The Town of Prosper hosted a special Honor Walls Dedication Ceremony at Prosper Town Hall, 250 W. First St., on Veterans Day, Friday, November 11. These new Honor Walls were constructed in honor of Prosper residents and Town staff who have served their country and public servants who serve the community. The ceremony will include remarks by Town officials and a dedication of the Town Hall Honor Walls.

The idea to honor military members and public safety personnel with a public structure originated in 2019. With Town Council support, the Honor Walls project was funded in FY 2021-2022 and construction was completed in October 2022. The Honor Wall to the west includes a cast emblem for each military branch: Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force and Coast Guard. Police and Fire Department emblems are displayed on the eastern Honor Wall. Randall Scott Architects, designer of Town Hall, also designed the Honor Walls.

Dan Baker, Director of Parks and Recreation, said “The Town of Prosper is excited to be able to honor those who serve this country and this community. We invited the community to join us at the Honor Walls Dedication event and Prosper’s first annual Veterans Day 5K and Fun Run.”

In addition to the Honor Walls Ceremony, a new Prosper Veterans Day 5K and Fun Run was held on Saturday, November 12. This new Veterans 5K and Fun Run added a fitness component to the patriotic weekend which continued the salute to the men and women who have served in our nation’s military. Open to all ages and abilities, the 5K and Fun Run welcomed everyone! Seasoned runners and walkers, beginning runners, children, stroller-pushing parents, and those who use wheelchairs were encouraged to sign up for either event. A short program honoring veterans was held at 8:00am, followed by the 5K at 8:30a.m. and the one-mile Fun Run at 9:00a.m.

Any proceeds from the Prosper Veterans Day 5K & Fun Run will go to benefit the Veterans Memorial, slated for construction at a future date at Frontier Park.
