Youth Advocate to Speak on Harmful Effects of Social Media and Screen Addiction

Prosper ISD is excited to welcome TEDx speaker Collin Kartchner to the district in October. Kartchner focuses his presentations on helping parents learn how to better connect with their children in this digital age. He also communicates directly with adolescents to inspire them to rise above the harmful effects of social media and screen addiction.

Kartchner, who created #savethekids and runs the website savethekids.us, will be speaking to middle school and high school students in Prosper ISD on October 8th, 2020 via live stream. He will then extend his presentation to district parents that evening at 6pm at the Rock Hill High School arena.

Two years ago, Kartchner kicked off his #savethekids campaign. His presentations educate parents and teens on the potential damages of social media and on how the constant access to peer culture can impact a child’s mental health. His goal is to help teens rise above social media comparison, negativity, cyber bullying, and the stress of being perfect, and to help parents reconnect with their kids.

In addition to being invited to speak at TEDxSaltLakeCity in 2018 and share his message with companies like Nike and Adidas, he has spoken to youth and adults across the country. The message he presents is so engaging, entertaining, emotional, and inspiring that Kartchner is booked through 2021.
