Taking down the competition…Prosper Wrestling Stays on Top During the District II 5A Tournament

The Prosper Wrestling team hosted the 2018 District II 5A tournament this past weekend. The tournament brought in some of the biggest state competition in Texas to the Prosper High School’s Arena. This was a 2-day tournament for the men’s team and a single day tournament for the ladies. Both groups represented Prosper during every match to the best of their ability. When all was said and done, the men’s team was awarded the district championship as a team and advanced thirteen individuals to Regionals! The ladies team was awarded runner-up to Liberty High School and will be advancing all seven of their teammates to the Regional Tournament!

Women advancing to regionals:

95- Emily Reish – 3rd place

102- Larissa Flores – 3rd place

119- Cece Adams – 2nd place

128- Cristiana Williams – District Champion

138- Juliana Baugher – 2nd place

148- Delia Luna – 5th place

215- Alyssa Alvarez – District Champion

 

Men advancing to regionals:

106- John Richardson – 2nd place

120- Christian Centrella – 5th place

126- Igor Costa – 3rd place

132- Caleb Redman – 2nd place

138- Kade Mann – 3rd place

145- Brayden Brandvold – 5th place

152- Caden Mills – District Champion

160- Tommy Flaherty District Champion

170- James Wujek – District Champion

182- Chase Parham – 4th place

195- David Bonds – District Champion

220- Alex Varela – 4th place

285- Tristan Baugher – District Champion

All of these wrestlers will be competing this upcoming weekend at Frisco Independence High School  at the regional tournament in hopes to secure their spot at the State Wrestling tournament.

Adding to the awards being earned by the wrestlers, James Wujek was privileged to be voted on by all the coaches in the entire tournament as the “Outstanding Boys Wrestler” of the District Tournament and Coach King was awarded as the “Boys Coach of the Year.” This tournament was a good look at what the rest of the season will look like and the wrestlers are all in the process of training for the competition to come.
