The Prosper High School Golf teams had great success this year and continued the winning streak that has won them the title of District Champions for the past eleven years. Prosper’s teams have been Region Champions four different times and Region qualifiers for the past 11 years. They have also had a State Championship team and State qualifiers for the past 11 years. Their legacy no doubt leaves much to be proud of and much to celebrate.
The teams hope to carry the momentum from this season’s successes into their new 6A district next year. There’s no question that their success will carry on, but after the 2018 senior class graduates, the teams will be without 6 key players that will be moving onward and upward in their golf and scholastic careers.
Both teams graduate 3 seniors: Cole Lantz, Josh Knight and Jake Hughes on the boys’ team. Senior Cole Lantz has been on the Varsity team for four years and says, “Prosper Golf has given me many memorable years. I’ve gained great friends and many experiences that I will never forget.”
Seniors, Caroline Weatherly, Carlee Tinsley and Cassidy McAlpine will be graduating after having left their mark on the girls’ team. Senior Caroline Weatherly says, “I’ve enjoyed being able to transition from volleyball to golf with my favorite coach.”
All High School sports teams lose seniors each year, leaving underclassmen with big shoes to fill. Although it is often difficult to say goodbye to athletes that made such an impact and leave such a legacy, the good news is that legacy lives on in the students that come after them.
With another school year and golf season in the history books, the Prosper community and fans are so proud of our Prosper Eagle Golf Teams for their group efforts, as well as their individual accomplishments. Good Luck to the graduating seniors in all of your future endeavors and good luck to the up and coming Eagles that we know will leave their own legacy as well.
