It’s been five years in the making, but the Prosper Eagles are heading back to the regional round of playoffs once again after routing the Mesquite Poteet Pirates 53-20 Friday night at Allen Eagles Stadium.
Prosper started off with an 8-0 lead from a 63-yard run by junior quarterback Keegan Shoemaker followed by the two point conversion by junior Cody Gallegos.
Shoemaker would finish the night going 12-for-15 and with a total of 152 yards, 71 of which were rushing.
Kaleb Adams came alive with a touchdown that began with a 56-yard reception and run that took him inside the 5-yard line. Adams had 27 carries for 159 yards as well as over 100 receiving yards.
The Eagle defense held their ground and allowed only six points in the first half of play and 14 in the second half, key interceptions by junior Wayne Anderson, Jr. and senior strong safety Blake Harrington, as well as five sacks.
Prosper outplayed the Pirates earning 21 first downs to their 10. The Eagles also earned over 180 more yards in the matchup with 493 versus Poteet’s 311.
Prosper will face Mansfield Lake Ridge, who defeated the Eagles 33-16 earlier this season, on Friday, December 1 at Standridge Stadium in Carrollton at 7:00 p.m.
Coach Brandon Schmidt said, “We will do what we do each week, we will prepare to win the game. We are not finished yet.”
