Prosper’s varsity ice hockey team survived one the of best goalie performances of the season and pulled out a 2-1 win against Highland Park on Sunday night. Highland Park goalie Sam Haynes had an amazing night as Prosper peppered him with 45 shots on the night, only allowing two goals. Defensively, Prosper played a great game only allowing 7 shots.
Prosper’s Luke McCann broke through and scored with 3:29 left in the third period to break the scoreless tie. However, with Haynes on the bench and the extra forward on the ice, the Scots were able to tie the score with a goal from Nick Visconsi with 29 seconds left.
In overtime, Prosper senior captain, Alec Gouker, took control with a pretty shot that beat Haynes on his glove hand to give the Eagles a 2-1 win.
Prosper is now tied for first place with Richardson and Rockwall in the ATT High School Hockey League Varsity Bronze division.
Varsity will take on Keller at 6:30 p.m. at the Dr Pepper Stars Center in Euless on Sunday.
