Sia Srivastava, a 4th grade student at Folsom Elementary, in Prosper could very well be chosen to have her artwork featured on Google’s homepage. Google’s “Doodle 4 Google” competition is an art contest open to K-12 students across 53 states. Sia, whose doodle “Intergalactic Space Exploration Rollercoaster” won the contest over all Texas competitors is now qualified to move on to the National level of the competition. Folsom faculty and students held an assembly to announce the news that is not only exciting for Sia, but for the entire school.
The 53 state and territory finalists will be narrowed down to a group of five by a fan vote, which will last for two weeks starting May 7th. In June, the winner picked from those five will then be announced as the national winner, taking home a $30,000 college scholarship and a $50,000 Google for Education grant for his or her school.
This year’s theme was “What inspires me?” Sia’s artwork that included a roller-coaster, whimsical planets and rocket-ships was a proven a favorite. The impressive panel of judges that chose her artwork included:
Neil Patrick Harris- Actor, Director, Producer, Author
Ibtihaj Muhammad- U.S. Olympic Medalist, Entrepreneur and Activist
Ty Burrell- Actor and Restaurateur
Elaine Welteroth- Former Editor-in-Chief of Teen Vogue
Carlos Beltrán- Former Major League Baseball Player
Laurie Hernandez- U.S. Olympic Gold Medalist in Gymnastics
Sydney Chaffee -2017 National Teacher of the Year
We’d like to send a BIG CONGRATULATIONS to Sia, and Folsom Elementary for giving us yet another reason to be proud of our ever talented students, faculty and staff at Prosper ISD.
