The sun was out and the winds were high, but not as high as the hopes and excitement surrounding the ground breaking ceremony of what will soon be the home of the Prosper Blue Hawks and Prosper Independent School District’s 2nd source of PRIDE, Rock Hill High School.
It was with much anticipation that future graduates, excited parents, community leaders and school board members gathered to speak about, and ultimately, break ground on the vision that has long been in the making.
Associate Superintendent Holly Ferguson addressed guests on behalf of Superintendent Dr. Drew Watkins and spoke of his vision and dream for this community that is now becoming a reality. With pride, she stated that “Drew Watkins is one of the finest men that I have ever had the opportunity to work with,” and claimed that the magnitude of his leadership is what has created this monumental moment in Prosper history.
Ferguson introduced representatives of the school board while recognizing dignitaries in attendance, including Assistant Superintendent Dr. Greg Bradley, as well as Prosper Mayor Ray Smith and Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney.
Ferguson spoke of what an honor it is to work with the city of Frisco, as the school will be physically located in Frisco, but remains a part of the Prosper Independent School District. The school site, which includes 97 acres, will hold more than just a high school…it will include a competition arena, auditorium, courtyards, indoor football field, baseball and softball fields, a band hall, 6 tennis courts, a greenhouse and so much more. The finished facility will span more than 600,000 square feet.
Josh Huckabee thanked the PISD Administration and his team. He stated that he is excited to see the plans that were initiated 2 years ago when he sat down with PISD staff come to fruition and he was excited for the the progress that is to come.
The ceremony ended with Ben Pogue, President of Pogue Construction, speaking on the project and the fact that Rock Hill High School is so much more than an educational opportunity. It is also an opportunity to carry on a legacy in the spirit of hospitality where students can flourish in and outside of the classroom.
Demographers predict that the number of students in the district when Rock Hill High School opens in the Fall of 2020 will be close to 20,000!! It was to everyone’s surprise that the announcement was made…Rock Hill High School’s colors will be blue and black, and their mascot will be the Blue Hawk!!
